Back in Bandung again, and funny it’s never boring. Maybe it’s the weather. Maybe it’s the food and the restaurants. Or maybe it’s the many vintage buildings. Duh. I stayed in a hotel on Jalan Braga where some of the country’s best art deco buildings are just steps away. One of the famous shops there is Toko Buku Djawa, a must visit for vintage passionistas who happen to be in Bandung. What’s interesting about the shop is really the art deco architecture that is kept in its original condition, and the founder/ owner of the shop who up to now still serves the customers. Completely vintage, I would say. Aside from Toko Djawa, there are other shops which are equally interesting, such as Sumber Hidangan bakery and restaurant, Oey coffee house, and some antique shops. I told you Bandung is never boring.

The Objects of My Affection 2
Posted by Luthfi Hasan in Vintage Space
Here is my vintage collection which i display at home. They are flea market and street finds from Taman Puring, Kebayoran Lama, Jalan Surabaya, Semarang, Saigon, Beijing and Tokyo. I am not into collecting any particular objects, i just collect what i like when i spot it. Practically random. I was too sometimes confused and therefore made lots of bad judgement –i still do though, flea market situation can be overwhelming you know– but eventually i develop my own taste and interest, so I only take pieces that i think can work with other stuff.
Suitcases from 70′s which i now use for work. Good for laptop as it protects alright. Ten Minutes At Jalan Braga
Posted by Luthfi Hasan in Vintage Space
Bandung never lost its charm. Even in the twilight when the rain was about to drop. Put aside the disturbing traffic jam –blame it on the weekenders from Jakarta– walking down on Jalan Braga is quite enjoyable. The weather is not too hot, the trottoir is wide and clean, the restaurants are plenty and some are interesting, the art deco buildings….
make a nice photo backdrop. And there are these painting shops and sellers alongside the street. Here they got my attention. The paintings being offered are typical paintings I would see in some Rumah Makan Sunda, or in my childhood homes in Garut and Bogor. O dear, I must have a photographic memory as everything reminds me of my childhood. The photos below were taken during my ten minute visit on Jalan Braga on the way to a friend’s wedding last month.Category Vintage Space | Tags: Tags: artdeco, bandung, childhood, JalanBraga, paintingbynumber, paintings, space, trotoir, twilight | 2 Comments

The Objects of My Affection
Posted by Luthfi Hasan in Cool Vintage
Whether you get it as a gift from parents or friends, or you found it in the flea market, collecting vintage –or stocking? – is always fun and addictive. It seems there is always an excuse to hunt for more, and there are always rooms for new finds.
Well, i am speaking for myself obviously. Anyway, the nice thing about vintage is that every piece tells a story, and you always wonder who was the owner before and why it ended up in the thrift shop such beautiful pieces. Here are some vintage stuff that i have gained from many different sources.
This Garrara turntable comes with an AM/MW radio, or the other way around. Officially belongs to my parents but looks more appropriate in my home, so I would always say it’s mine.
