  1. Pretty Artworks For My Pretty Friends

Posted by Luthfi Hasan in Art and Culture

My Private Garden by Nani Sakri, my favourite. Great as a focal point in a big space. Just pretty. I bet all my friends would want this one too.

Iriantine Karnaya and Nani Sakri get together to present their works in an exhibition called DIALOG KERINDUAN commencing now in the Energy Building, in Sudirman Business District. One is a senior contemporary sculptor, the other one is a seasoned painter — and by the way a famous catwalk model of the 70′s, both highlighting woman as their art object.  In my ten minute visit in the exhibition, I have already spotted some artworks that I think may work in my vintage spaces, or would actually be better for the homes of my good friends Ira, Vera, Uti, Irma, Maribelle, Dwita, Geline, Rima, and Andu. My spontaneous comment on all the artworks is: pretty and beautiful. Congratulations.  Here is my pick:

Another pretty painting by Nani Sakri, Transformation. This painting can transform any room into beauty. Maybe Ira would like it for her home.

I dont know what the artist Iriantine means by “Two Days Before” but I think Andu would like it. Andu, this should be yours.

  2. Beautiful Heads in Darmawangsa

The good thing about having an office space in a mall is every need is only one minute away. Darmawangsa Square –where my office is based– has three art galleries, one auction house and one museum. So today –after I was released from a tiring, long meeting outside– I visited an art exhibition at Yuz Museum which was presenting the artworks of an international contemporary artist Dadang Christanto.  The painting and installation works are curated by Agung Hujatnikajennong.

Through this exhibition the artist “wishes to invite us to reflect upon…history and memory” that’s why you will see plenty of heads in the museum in the next three months– painted with wayang, dogs, buffalo and other javanese objects. Just beautiful. So beautiful that I felt fresh, inspired, almost forgot about that long meeting.

An antique glass painting of three ladies in kimonos which I found at Hana-Zuno flea market in Tokyo is a real steal. Besides, it goes just beautiful with the Chinese tennis player lady from Taman Puring. Do you have a street find or a flea market buy that you want to share here? Please send the photo(s) to luthfi_hasan@yahoo.com. Lets find and share!
